Caracas, September 14 (teleSUR-RHC)-- The Venezuelan government denied on Sunday claims made by Colombia regarding the supposed illegal entry of two Venezuelan military aircraft in Colombian airspace.

“There is no evidence of the alleged violation of the airspace of our neighboring country (Colombia); it's an invention to frustrate a (possible) presidential meeting,” wrote Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez on her Twitter account. 

The Venezuelan foreign minister's response came hours after the Defense Ministry of Colombia issued a statement accusing Caracas of violating the country's airspace.

According to the statement, the two airplanes entered the municipality of Maicao, which shares a border with the Venezuelan province of La Guajira.
    
As Venezuelan Foreign Minister Rodriguez explained, President Nicolas Maduro believes this is an effort to boycott current talks between both nations, which are being mediated by the regional blocs UNASUR and CELAC.

The statement issued by the Colombian Defense Ministry claims that the violation of its airspace happened on Saturday, the same day in which Venezuela's foreign minister and her Colombian counterpart were meeting in Quito, Ecuador, to find a solution to the border crisis.

“President Nicolas Maduro reiterates his proposal of an immediate meeting to discuss the serious human exodus from Colombia as well as border crimes,” said Rodriguez through her Twitter account. 

Both countries are trying to find a peaceful solution after weeks of tensions due to Venezuela's decision to close two border crossings with Colombia.
