Mexico City, November 23 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Five Colombian nationals were found dead with signs of torture in the southeastern Mexican state of Veracruz, where they were reported missing 10 days ago, La Jornada reported Sunday. According to the Mexican newspaper, the five Colombians were found dead in Puente Nacional municipality of Veracruz, one of the country's most violent states. The five males were allegedly abducted from their home in Cordoba and taken almost 80 miles away to their deaths. The Veracruzan state prosecutor's office said the Colombians were allegedly involved in criminal activities. “They were apparently involved in illegal activities, which is one of the main lines of investigation," the office said in a statement. "Authorities are looking into organized crime involvement in this case.” The bodies of the five Colombians were found last Tuesday and will soon be sent back to Colombia, said Javier Tamayo, the Colombian director of the National Attention for the Defense of the People. Media in Veracruz has highlighted that the Colombians were tortured before being killed. Relatives of the five Colombians presented an official complain in their hometown of Risaralda, Colombia, saying that they had disappeared from the home where they lived in Cordoba, Veracruz, on the night of Nov. 11 after a fight broke out. No further explanation was given by the families. The families in Colombia said that the five deceased men were involved in a small loans scheme at high interests. Tamayo said the five men were from poor families that live in the Risaralda region.
