Brasilia, December 17 (PL-RHC)-- Marchers protesting the 'political trial' of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff took to the streets in 11 states of Brazil, including the Federal District of Brasilia on Wednesday. According to the Workers Central Trade Union (CUT) the states included Sao Paulo, Alagoas, Bahía, Ceará, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Santa Catarina and Sergipe. The events began in Maceio, capital of Alagoas, with at least 6,000 people marching through the center of the city. In addition to the CUT and other guilds, the other movements that participated were Landless Workers (MTS) of the homeless (MTST), People Fearless group, the Workers party (PT) and Comunista do Brasil (PCdoB), among others. This is in defense of democracy and against the decline in social rights and income distribution policies, that will happen if the president is dismissed, said the national leader of the CUT, Vagner Freitas. There is a part of society, represented by people like Cunha and backward institutions such as the Federation of Industries of Sao Paulo (FIESP) interested in stopping this process of change, he said.
