Caracas, February 27 (RHC-teleSUR) -- Venezuela will reopen its border with Colombia during the day, according to an announcement by the governor of Tachira state.

Governor Jose Gregorio Vielma Mora said that from Saturday, the Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge will be partially opened to allow heavy-load vehicles to pass between the two countries. He said the border will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and will be the only opportunity for these kind of trucks to pass.

“It is a big step, the beginning of the border opening by Venezuela. This initiative has been from the Bolivarian government, with the aim of advancing the economy,” said the governor.

The Venezuelan government closed the border in August 2015 to end smuggling out of the country and curb paramilitary activity.
