London, January 31 (RHC) -- British legislator George Galloway on Thursday called on world politicians and civil society to provide greater support to the cause of the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States.
In a message posted on the Voices for the Five website, Galloway said 2014 will be a fundamental year to obtain the long overdue release of these men, adding that the upcoming International Commission on their legal case to be held in London on March 7th and 8th would be the perfect venue to advance in this direction.
The London meeting aims to expose the irregularities committed during the prosecution for alleged espionage of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, and Rene Gonzalez.
The Five were detained in 1998, while monitoring terrorist groups based in Miami that planned and executed violent actions against the Cuban people. They were given harsh prison sentences by a biased Miami court and put in separate jails throughout the country.
Rene Gonzalez has already returned to his relatives in Cuba after completing 13 years of prison and probation time.
