Mexico, Feb 1, (RHC), -- Mexican Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Meade, highlighted on Friday the great value placed by Mexico on its relationship with Cuba.

According to the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs, the state visit this week by president Enrique Peña Nieto was a significant event for bilateral relations, saying it would lead to closer understanding and cooperation.

For Mexico the ties with Cuba are very important, we share 1250 kilometers of the Caribbean, and therefore, we want a constructive and positive relationship, said Meade after attending a plenary meeting of senators from the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party.

Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto traveled last Monday to Cuba, where he participated in the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and met with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro.

On that occasion, both dignitaries noted the good state of bilateral relations and reiterated their mutual desire to further develop trade and cooperation.
