Havana, October 25 (RHC)-- The economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba has been condemned by the United Nations General Assembly on 23 occasions, as it constitutes a violation of international law and the independence, self-determination and sovereignty of the Cuban people.
This was highlighted in a statement issued Tuesday, October 24, by the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua. The document further states that the peoples of the world condemn this unilateral coercive measure as a violation of the principles of sovereign equality of states, non-intervention and non-interference in internal affairs, free trade and freedom of navigation in international waters.
Likewise, the Nicaraguan legislative body stressed that it will reiterate its commitment and solidarity with the Cuban people and government on November 1st, when the annual debate on the lifting of the U.S. blockade is held at the UN, while categorically condemning all overt and covert measures and actions undertaken by the U.S. government against the Caribbean state.
Meanwhile, Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies approved a point of agreement October 24 presented by its Political Coordination Board and drafted by the Mexico-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, which calls for the lifting of the blockade and requests that the Mexican government takes this position to the UN General Assembly.
The agreement adopted by the Mexican legislative body also calls on the U.S. Congress to put an end to the coercive anti-Cuba policy.
