Pretoria, February 27 (RHC)-- A group of 23 Cuban doctors arrived in the South African province of Eastern Cape as part of the bilateral medical cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Provincial health director Sicelo Gqobana presided over the welcoming ceremony along the head of the Cuban medical cooperation mission in South Africa, Alex Carreras, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry. With the arrival of the 23 doctors, the number of Cuban medical workers in Eastern Cape has increased to 70, who are now offering their services in what is considered one of the poorest territories of the country.
The group of doctors include professors that will train new South African medical doctors at the Walter Sisulu University, in the locality of Mthatha.
