Havana, September 4 (RHC) --The Chairman of Cuba's Nefrology Society, Jorge Perez, said Tuesday in Havana that patients with kidney diseases have not escaped from the consequences of the economic blockade the United States maintains against Cuba.
The noted Cuban scientist said that the complex treatments of patients with kidney diseases are costly the world over and that given the US blockade Cuba is additionally forced to import the necessary equipment and materials from far away Europe and Asia.
The Cuban Ministry of Health guarantees the purchase of the equipment and components of the highest quality, although the fact that they have to be purchased on the other side of the world considerably increases their cost, he explained.
The Chairman of Cuba's Nefrology Society, Jorge Perez also lamented that specialists in the field can not attend classes or courses or technical and scientific discussions and meetings in the United States. Most of Cuba’s nefrologist experts have taken courses in Europe, especially in France, he added.
