Havana, December 13 (RHC)-- Chaired by its First Secretary, Raúl Castro, the 8th Plenary Session of the Communist Party of Cuba's Central Committee met for two days to discuss the country's new Draft Constitution, following a broad process of popular consultation.
The document will now be presented for approval by the National Assembly of People's Power, before it is put to a nationwide referendum.
The Plenary congratulated all those involved in organizing the consultation process for their hard work. According to Raul Castro, the data collected from all sectors of our society constitutes a valuable and enriching working document that must be kept and used.
Homero Acosta Álvarez, Council of State Secretary, gave details of the fundamental aspects of the consultation process and the resulting draft Constitution.
In particular, he noted the active participation of the Cuban people, and multiple expressions of praise for the democratic nature of the process.
More than 8.9 million Cubans took part in the meetings, where more than 1,700,000 interventions were made. It was pointed out that all the opinions have been carefully analyzed and duly incorporated into the new draft constitution.
