Havana, January 31 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has indicated the search for solutions for the victims of the recent tornado that hit areas of  Havana continues. The Cuban leader is maintaining close contact with those affected, according to official sources, who also reported that Diaz-Canel meets daily with the Ministers to be on top of the situation.

At Wednesday night’s meeting of the Council of Ministers to evaluate the progress of recovery after the devastating tornado hit on Sunday, the president called for a solution to the problem of housing, including the adaptation of premises available to those who lost their homes.

During follow-up meetings, Diaz-Canel also reiterated the urgency that the leaders and authorities stay with the victims of the tornado, “supporting, giving information, removing obstacles and accompanying people.”

More than 1,200 homes suffered damage on Sunday, many of them completely destroyed by the storm that hit areas of the municipalities Regla, Guanabacoa, Diez de Octubre and San Miguel del Padrón.

In the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Finance and Prices, Meisi Bolaños reported that the State Budget will finance 50 per percent of the prices of construction materials that are sold to people affected by total or partial landslides.

Other discounts and the possibility of access to credits and subsidies for low-income residents were also discussed at the meeting.

Regarding electrical service, one of the most severe effects caused by the tornado, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Raúl García, stated that in the municipalities of Diez de Octubre, Guanabacoa and Regla, restoration exceeds 70 percent.

The magnitude of the accumulated debris on the roads has prevented forward movement with the expected speed; however, Havana is working without rest to get electrical service restored by Friday.
