Havana, April 1 (RHC)-- Cuba has expressed the willingness to improve ties with the United States, whose government continues to impose and tighten the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita González wrote on her Twitter account: "Cuba has repeatedly reiterated its willingness to develop a relationship with the United States on the basis of respect for our sovereignty and non-interference in our internal affairs."

Gonzalez mentioned the topic when Democratic congressman for Massachusetts James McGovern visited the island and defended the normalization of ties between the two countries.  Speaking to Prensa Latina, McGovern pointed out that normal ties are in the best interests of the U.S. and advocated the end of the blockade and the restriction of travel to the United States, as well as the annulment of the Helms-Burton Law that is committed to regime change in Cuba.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Raúl Castro, and President Miguel Díaz-Canel have warned of the policy of confrontation that Washington seems intent on pursuing, but also the will of Cuba to have relations of mutual respect and benefit.
