Pretoria, April 15 (RHC) The general secretary of the African National Congress in the province of Mpumalanga, Lucky Ndinisa praised the historic support of Cuba to the people of South Africa and the island’s current cooperation in several fields.
Ndinisa took part at a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Pretoria and Havana, which was held in the northern South African province by the local union Nehawu, which groups health and education workers.
Thanks to the Cuban assistance we have achieved big progress in training our engineers, doctors and other specialists, said the ANC delegate.
The ceremony also stressed Cuba’s contribution to the liberation of South Africa and the defeat of the Apartheid regime.
Cuban ambassador to Pretoria Carlos Fernandez de Cossio said that his country and South Africa have advanced many collaboration programs in the fields of health, education and human resources.
On May 11, 1994, Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro formalized diplomatic relations between South Africa and Cuba, an official step towards the consolidation of those fraternal links that had joined both nations for the past three decades.
