Brasilia, January 29 (RHC)-- Former Brazilian President Fernando Collor de Mello defended the international medical collaboration of Cuba, one of the foundations of the Caribbean island in its relations with the world.
 
I believe that Más Médicos demonstrated the value of this health program, which was successful and provided innumerable benefits for our people,"  the youngest politician to assume the presidency ever (March 15, 1990) in the history of Brazil told Prensa Latina news agency.

He argued that the project, created in 2013 during Dilma Rousseff's administration, 'had outstanding results in the health care required by the Brazilian people, as well as a social function. 

"It was something extraordinary," the former president (1990-1992).stressed.

Collor de Mello said that Más Médicos was 'an improvement in the fight against the ills suffered by these people and also an improvement in humanitarian relations in Brazil, Cuba, and the rest of the world.'

In spite of the results and the solidarity, love, and altruism of the Cuban doctors, on November 14, 2018, Cuba decided to pull out of Más Médicos due to the questioning and derogatory statements made by then president-elect Jair Bolsonaro about the island's professionals.

For Collor de Mello, there was 'a very hasty attitude, to say the least, from the current president (Bolsonaro). An attitude, in my opinion, that deserves to be reviewed'.

The ex-ruler advocated for 'the Cuban doctors to return to Brazil and continue their successful work, without precedent, in favor of the health of Brazilians'.
