Havana, June 26 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel ratified the thoughts of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, about the confidence that humanity will not be annihilated.

On his Twitter account, the president recalled an idea that reflects the certainty that the best of humanity will prevail over the super-exploitation of natural resources and the damage to the environment.

"We trust in humanity, we trust in people, and humanity will not allow itself to be annihilated, nor will it allow its nature, its waters, its seas, its resources to be annihilated," the Cuban leader said.

The expression was pronounced by Fidel Castro in the speech during the closing of the Summit of Ministers of Health of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in Havana on June 26, 1998.

Cuba is one of the countries that has made its own the struggle in defense of the natural habitat of the human species, with government policies that promote its care and protection.

An example of this is the Caribbean nation's forest cover index, currently at 31.66 percent, with 3.287 million hectares, thanks to the implementation of the National Program for Reforestation, Care and Preservation of Forest Areas.

Also noteworthy are the actions of the State Plan to confront climate change, which has a great scope and hierarchy, and which has completed the tasks planned for its first stage, according to sources at the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA).

The Caribbean island is also gradually increasing its generation of clean energy, with 63 photovoltaic solar parks and other renewable energy sources.

According to the Minister of CITMA, Elba Rosa Perez, the average annual expenditure on biodiversity in the country amounts to $766 million pesos and is working on the care of ecosystems and control of invasive alien species.
