Havana, October 7 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel checked the control in the country of the epidemiological situation concerning COVID-19.  During the meeting of the temporary work group, the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, stated that five thousand 883 cases infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, have been confirmed in the country since March.

However, the health minister emphasized that currently only 480 patients diagnosed with the disease remained in the hospitals, representing 8.1 percent of that total.  The minister noted that 97.2 percent of the positive cases in the last 24 hours in the country are people under 60 years old, which continues to confirm that in Cuba, young people are predominantly infected.

Dr. Portal Miranda pointed out that with the 46 medical discharges granted in day, there are 5,278 patients recovered from Covid-19 in the country, which places the total number of people who have managed to overcome the disease at 90 percent.

The Cuban president also talked with authorities of the western region of the country to know the preparations in view of the proximity of Hurricane Delta.  During the virtual meeting, the officials of the Special Municipality Isle of Youth reported about the evacuation of more than four thousand people.

The authorities explained that in that area, the meteorological conditions have deteriorated with intense rains and gusts of wind since Tuesday afternoon.  For its part, the province of Pinar del Río is concentrating its efforts on evacuating people living in vulnerable areas, as well as on protecting economic resources.
