Buenos Aires, November 16 (RHC)-- The Henry Reeve International Brigade, specialized in disasters and epidemics relief, was presented with the 2020 Democracy Award to the outstanding Latin American personality, granted by the Caras y Caretas Cultural Center of Argentina.
The Brigade shared the Award, which recognizes those who demonstrate day by day their commitment through their life and work to democratic values, with the Lastesis collective from Chile.
According to the organizers, other personalities acknowledged in this 12th edition include outstanding fighter Hebe de Bonafini, president of Madres de Plaza de Mayo, who received an honorary human rights award.
Together with other categories, every year since its foundation in 2009, the Steering Committee of the Caras y Caretas Cultural Center chooses the personalities distinguished with the Award to the Outstanding Personality of Argentina and Latin America and the honorary laurels.
Instituted in honor of the year in which Argentina recovered its democracy after the last military dictatorship (1976-1983), the Award grants a statuette designed by Marcelo Toledo.
At present, The Henry Reeve brigade has 43 contingents deployed in 33 countries with 2,523 professionals attend to patients who are victims of COVID-19, spread throughout the planet, with more than 40 million infected since its appearance.
