Cuban Parliament analyzes bills on local administrations

Havana, December 5 (RHC)--The National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (Parliament) analyzes Saturday two bills related to the organization and functioning of the provincial governments and the municipal administration councils.

The virtual exchange is part of the study and debate process that precedes the approval of the legislation, which will be considered next December 17, during the sixth ordinary period of sessions of the IX legislature.

On Friday, the bills' content was presented to the provincial governments and members of the municipal administration councils, with the receive their feedback,  based on work experience.

Similarly, the proposed laws are in the hands of other authorities who can provide opinions to help improve them and be available on the Parliament's website so that citizens can study them and make their suggestions and doubts known.

Next December 14, the deputies will meet again by videoconference to clarify concerns and explain the changes that will be introduced in the legal bodies.

The goal is to generate the greatest possible consensus before reaching the Assembly's session, said José Luis Toledo, president of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament.

These two bills will complete the process of institutional organization of the Cuban State based on the new Constitution, he added in a recent exchange with the press.

The bill on the organization and functioning of the provincial government regulates the governor's powers, the deputy governor, and the provincial council, which is not a purely administrative body but represents the State in its demarcation, he clarified.

Meanwhile, the draft related to the Council of Municipal Administration details issues of structure, organization, powers and functioning, and the  powers of the mayor, the deputy governors, and the secretary.
