Miguel Diaz-Canel said Sunday on Twitter that his counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc received in Hanoi the first shipment of the Cuban vaccine Abdala.

Havana, September 26 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic Miguel Diaz-Canel said Sunday on Twitter that his counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc received in Hanoi the first shipment of the Cuban vaccine Abdala.

The president of Cuba was pleased with that event and shared on his account on that social network the information provided by the Cuban embassy in Vietnam . At the end of the message he posted the hashtag #ACubaPonleCorazón (#ACubaPonleCorazón).

The Cuban diplomatic headquarters in the sister country also announced that Ambassador Orlando Hernandez participated in the ceremony of delivery of the batch of immunogens.

This first shipment takes place after the agreement signed between the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Medical Biological Products (Polyvac) of Vietnam.

The agreement provides for the supply and distribution of five million doses of Abdala in the Indochinese nation.

The commitment was made during Nguyen Xuan Phuc's visit to Cuba last week, where the approval for the import and use of the injectable was announced after a rigorous evaluation by the Vietnamese Drug Control Authority.

Cuban and Vietnamese experts are working together to transfer the technology that will enable the production, filling and packaging of the drug in that country.

Abdala was the first anti-COVID-19 vaccine in Latin America and the Caribbean. It showed 90 percent effectiveness in severe patients and against the Delta variant of the disease, with a three-dose schedule at intervals of zero, 14 and 28 days.

The CIGB recently reported that they have produced 30 million units of the vaccine to guarantee immunization of the Cuban population over 19 years of age, which includes pregnant women, nursing mothers, transplant recipients, adolescents and young people in terminal grades of the national education system.
