Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, president of the National Electoral Council, informs deputies about the results of consultation on Family Code
Havana, May 14 (RHC)-- More than six million citizens participated in the popular consultation process on the draft Family Code, carried out between February and April, informed Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, president of the National Electoral Council, during the fifth extraordinary session of the Cuban Parliament.
During the process, 336,595 voter interventions were registered.
Marriage, parental responsibility, adoption, solidarity gestation, discrimination and violence in the family environment, the right of children and adolescents in the family environment, and assisted filiation were the topics that generated the highest number of proposals.
According to the data presented by Balseiro Gutiérrez, 61.96% of the opinions were in favor of the draft Family Code.
The Minister of Justice, Oscar Manuel Silveira Martinez, informed that all the criteria about the project's articles, whose new version will be presented at the end of June to the National Assembly, will be studied again.
"We will work in-depth observing the results of the popular consultation," he stated.
After its forthcoming presentation to Parliament, the final text of the Drafting Committee will be submitted to a referendum of the citizens at a date to be announced.
