Brazil and Cuba between drums at Timbalaye festival
Havana, Aug 19 (RHC) Brazil will have a marked presence for the first time at the 15th Timbalaye La Ruta de la Rumba 2023 International Festival that begins this Sunday until August 31 and will be active in 10 Cuban provinces.
This event will include in Havana the International Colloquium The Sounds of Cultural Identity, held at the Casa de África on August 21, and the participation of the guest Marcos Santos, a Brazilian musician, researcher and ethnomusicologist who will present Entre Tambores: Brasil-Cuba, with musical demonstration.
The program will have the presence of Dr. Miguel Barnet, president of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation and honorary of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, as well as other scholars of related topics.
Timbalaye this year is dedicated to musical instruments as an integral part of the essence of the cultural identity of the peoples, specifically to the Batá drums, part of the African legacy present in many Latin American nations.
With its rhythms and traditions, the Diaspora Bantu group, a native of the South American giant, will perform on the Havana stage.
In a press conference regarding the event, the cultural advisor of the Brazilian diplomatic headquarters in Cuba, Mario D Araujo, referred to his country's gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this festival. (Source: PL)
