Governments of Cuba and Bolivia strengthen dialogue on immigration and consular matters

Havana, Aug 19 (RHC) Santa Cruz de la Sierra hosted this week the 3rd Round of Bolivia-Cuba Migration and Consular Talks, whose objective is strengthening dialogues to promote actions for the benefit of their communities abroad.

A joint communiqué affirmed that during the meeting the delegations ratified the commitment to promote safe and dignified migration, which allows for the integration and protection of the rights of migrants.

Likewise, they recognized the need to address the multidimensional challenges of forced migration from a humanitarian and cooperation perspective.

Finally, both authorities highlighted the desire to maintain and strengthen these bilateral mechanisms.

The Bolivian delegation was led by the Vice Minister of Consular and Institutional Management of the Foreign Ministry, Eva Chuquimia, and the Cuban delegation by the General Director of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Resident Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ernesto Soberón.

As part of his stay in Santa Cruz, Soberón gave a virtual conference on the Cuban Migration Policy, which was broadcast on the Zoom platform.

Called The Cuban Migration Policy and Attention to Cubans Resident Abroad, the talk was developed based on the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Plurinational Diplomatic Academy of Bolivia and the Raúl Roa García Higher Institute of International Relations, of the Foreign Ministry of the island.

Soberón also held a meeting with compatriots residing in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, capital of the department of Santa Cruz. They discussed the 4th Conference on the Nation and Emigration convened for November 18 and 19, 2023 in Havana.

A previous round took place in Havana on September 15, 2022. (Source: PL)
