Cuba calls for respect for the sovereignty of the Palestinian people
Havana, Aug 31 (RHC) Cuba called this Wednesday before the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to respect the rights of the Palestinian people, and rejected Israel's actions against their settlements, homes and schools.
The Cuban ambassador, Pedro Luis Pedroso, when presenting the annual report of the Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (UNISPAL, for its acronym in English), urged the Israeli government to reverse the annexation.
Likewise, in his capacity as vice president of UNISPAL, the representative of the Caribbean nation denounced, in particular, actions such as house demolitions, the expansion of Israeli settlements and the forced displacement of Palestinians.
On this day, the Committee presented a legal study on the legality of the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.
According to UNISPAL, the research contributed to a broader understanding of the complex legal frameworks surrounding the Israeli occupation and its implications.
The study was prepared independently by the Irish Center for Human Rights at the National University of Ireland in Galway.
According to the text, Israel administers the occupied Palestinian territory in violation of the principles and rules of international humanitarian law and the peremptory norms of international law. (Source: PL)
