Havana, September 11 (RHC) -– Some 300 delegates from 50 nations of the world are attending the 10th International Colloquium with the Cuban Five and against Terrorism, which runs Thursday and Friday at Havana’s Convention Center.
The forum is part of an international campaign underway from September 4th until October 6th in 47 countries, where activists are demanding the release of Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Ramon Labañino -- three of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who are still being held in U.S. prisons since 1998.
The program includes a panel with relatives of the five Cubans, while activists will draw up new strategies and action plans to demand the release of the three.
Meanwhile, on September 12th, activists in Washington D.C. will hold a vigil in front of the White House, said Graciela Ramirez, President of the International Committee in Solidarity with the Cuban Five.
Ramirez said that the vigil will be backed by demonstrations in front of several U.S. embassies around the world.
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, along with Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, all known as the Cuban Five, were imprisoned in 1998 and submitted to a biased Miami legal process that handed down long prison sentences. They were monitoring Florida-based violent organizations that designed terrorist actions against Cuba. Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez returned to Cuba after fully serving their sentences and are now involved in actions for the release of their three compatriots held in U.S. prisons.
