Cuba ratified commitment to prepare the Future Summit

Havana, September 21 (RHC) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, ratified this Thursday in New York the commitment of the Group of 77 in the preparation and constructive participation of the Future Summit, scheduled for September 2024.

During his speech at the Ministerial Meeting on the Future Summit, Rodríguez, on behalf of the G77, an organization of which Cuba has held its pro tempore presidency since last January, highlighted the importance of this event, called to accelerate the application of the 2030 Agenda and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He pointed out that “whatever the result of the Future Summit, it will have to urge States to refrain from enacting and applying any unilateral economic, financial or commercial measure not in accordance with International Law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The international organization says on its website that the Future Summit is a unique opportunity to improve cooperation amid deficiencies in global governance, as well as to reaffirm existing commitments, including the SDGs and the UN Charter.

At the meeting, Member States, based on the contents of the SDG Summit, will study how to lay the foundations for more effective global cooperation to face current challenges and new threats.
