Club Hemingway of Cuba celebrates 32 years of recreational boating

Havana, May 22 (RHC) --The Hemingway International Nautical Club of Cuba this Tuesday celebrated 32 years as a pillar in the development of marine tourism activity.

After more than three decades of organizing regattas, meetings and competitions for the development of recreational sailing, the Commodore of the Hemingway International Nautical Club of Cuba, José Miguel Díaz Escrich, foresees greater potential for the club.

Founded on May 21, 1992, the club is noted for reinforcing the image of American novelist Ernest Hemingway. According to Díaz, this non-profit institution managed to strengthen the nautical image of the Island and establish strong ties of friendship with the international nautical community.

The Hemingway International Nautical Club emerged with only 32 members, including some Honorary Members for their contribution to Cuban recreational boating, representatives from Mexico, the United States, Greece and Italy, mainly diplomats and businessmen, some settled on the Island and others passing through.

Díaz emphasized the international recognition of this entity, especially due to its strength in terms of organizing events and in terms of the philosophy of always making new friends anywhere in the world.

Among the most relevant activities organized by the Club is, first and foremost, the Ernest Hemingway Marlin Fishing Tournament, founded in the 1950s by the writer of The Old Man and the Sea, A Farewell to Arms and many other important novels.

Furthermore, this entity symbolizes Cuba in numerous world associations such as the Ocean Cruising club and Cruising Association of the United Kingdom, as well as Trans-Ocean and Kreuzer-Abteilung, both from Germany.

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism constantly aims at diversifying the club’s recreational offer, in addition to the sun and beach themes, where culture, adventure, nature, conferences, circuits and recreational nautical activities stand out. (Source: PL)
