Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, June 10 (RHC) -- The Foreign Ministers of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, and Brazil, Mario Vieria, spoke here today on the sidelines of the BRICS Plus Ministerial Council.

At the meeting, both foreign ministers agreed on the positive state of bilateral relations, while sharing criteria in relation to the international agenda and the Latin American and Caribbean region.

For his part, the head of diplomacy of the Caribbean nation conveyed, on behalf of the Cuban people and Government, solidarity and support for the situation suffered by the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, after the heavy rains and floods that devastated the territory since the end of April, and left more than a hundred people dead or missing.

Likewise, he thanked the South American country for its rejection of Cuba's inclusion in the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism, orchestrated by the United States.

Prior to this exchange, in the morning session, Cuba's foreign minister met with his counterparts from Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, and from Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, with whom he also reviewed the development of bilateral ties.

Rodríguez recognized Minsk's support for Havana in condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation for more than six decades, with a broad intensification in recent years.

While together with the main representative of Egyptian diplomacy, they agreed on the need to put an end to Israel's escalation against the Palestinian people in Gaza, and support for the recognition of Palestine as a State of the United Nations Organization.

The Cuban foreign minister arrived in the city of Nizhny Novgorod the day before to participate in the meeting of the BRICS Plus Ministerial Council, at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

Rodríguez will speak in the expanded session of the ministerial meeting on Tuesday, which, in the opinion of the hosts, will be the favorable platform for the exchange of opinions on current issues on the world agenda, even in the context of joint efforts to strengthen true multilateralism in international relations.

At the end of the meeting, the Cuban foreign minister will travel to Moscow to complete an official visit where he will be received by Lavrov on Wednesday, June 12th, in order to analyze a range of topics on deepening the joint association in political, commercial, economic and scientific-technical.
