Havana, November 7 (RHC-ACN), -- In Havana, Nigerian Ambassador to Cuba, Laraba Elsie Binta Bhutto thanked the continued support given by the island to Africa for over the last 50 years.

“Cuba shares its scarce resources with other under-developed countries around the world and many African states have reaped the benefits from such cooperation,” said the Nigerian diplomat at the headquarters of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Havana, where she participated in the cancellation of a stamp commemorating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both nations.

She also spoke about Cuba’s current role in the battle against the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and highlighted the deployment of over 250 doctors from the island in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, the countries worst hit by the deathly virus.

“This is a meritorious action that should be emulated by other members of the international community,” she said. Likewise, the African diplomat stressed the warm relations between her country and Cuba, which established diplomatic relations in July, 1974.

More than 100 professionals from Nigeria have graduated in Cuba in areas of Health, Education, Sports and Engineering over the last 40 years; while Cuban cooperating medical staff have taken part in health campaigns in that African nation.
