Athens, May 25 (RHC)-- The Greek solidarity movement with Cuba has honored José Martí on the 120th anniversary of his death in combat on May 19, 1895. Local officials, representatives of social and political organizations, diplomatic representatives and Cuban residents in Athens, the Greek capital, gathered in a downtown park and laid a wreath at the statue of Cuba's National Hero.
Cuba's ambassador to Greece, Osvaldo Cobacho, stressed the importance of the legacy of José Martí and noted that he has been a source of inspiration for the Cuban Revolution.
During the tribute to José Martí, solidarity activists read several of his poems in both Spanish and Greek and members of organizations of friendship with Cuba expressed their opinions about Marti's thought.
