Santiago de Cuba, July 13 (RHC) -– Floral wreaths from Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro were laid on Sunday at the tomb of Mariana Grajales, mother of Cuban independence hero Antonio Maceo, to celebrate the bicentennial of her birth.
The ceremony was held at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in the city of Santigago de Cuba, where a bust by artist Alberto Lescay was unveiled in the presence of Tania Grajales, a descendant of the Cuban heroine.
Mariana Grajales is revered in Cuba as a mother titans, of heroes. She was born in Santiago de Cuba on July 12, 1815.
In that eastern city and throughout Cuba, a number of activities were held throughout the past week to commemorate Mariana's legacy.
