Young Cuban writers presented with Calendario awards

The Calendario Awards for 2017 were presented to young Cuban writers this week at Havana’s International Book Fair.

More than one hundred works competed in different categories, such as narrative, poetry, science fiction and others in what is considered one of the country's most prestigious literary competitions. Paraísos perdidos (Lost Paradise) by Marta Acosta Álvarez took the award home in narrative, while Finis Terrae by Roberto Viñas got a mention.Dios no me tiene en cuenta (God doesn’t take me into account) by Yonier Torres Rodríguez was awarded in poetry, while El crematorio (The Crematory) by Juan Edilberto Sosa; La muda perspectiva (The Mute Perspective) by Daniel Duarte; and Eterno consorte de mi alma (My Soul’s Eternal Husband) by Ismaray Pozo, received a mention in the same category. In science fiction La peregrinación de los dioses (The Pilgrimage of Gods) by Malena Salazar took the award home. The Calendario Awards are sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Young Artists Association and Abril Publishing House.
