Cuba is participating in a special meeting online of the General Assembly of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ), called for by the Association’s Executive Committee.

ASSITEJ unites theatres, organizations and individuals throughout the world who make theatre for children and young people. The Association is dedicated to the artistic, cultural and educational rights of children and young people across the globe and advocates on behalf of all children regardless of nationality, cultural identity, ability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or religion. The members of the Association are national centers, professional networks, and individuals from around 100 countries across the world.

Cuba is represented at the special online meeting of the Association General Assembly by the National Council on Performing Arts (CNAE) and the Cuban National Center of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People.

The 20th World Congress of the Association, originally planned to take place this month in Japan, was postponed to March 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the postponement of the 20th World Congress in Japan to 2021, ASSITEJ the National Center of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People Serbia, which was bidding for the Association’s Artistic Gathering in 2021 has decided to postpone their bid to 2023.

In a gesture of solidarity, the Cuban National Center of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, which was bidding for the Association’s World Congress in 2023 has decided to postpone their bid for the 21st World Congress to 2024, giving the space to ASSITEJ Serbia and securing a three-year term between the 20th Congress in Japan and the 21st Congress in Cuba.
