Cuba will host 21st ASSITEJ Congress

Havana, April 1 (RHC)-- The International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, informed this past Wednesday that Havana will host its 21st World Congress, set for 2024. The decision was adopted unanimously at the just concluded General Assembly of the Association, held online.

It will be the second time that Cuba hosts the important meeting. The Caribbean state hosted the 11th Congress of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People 31 years ago.

The General Assembly debated the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic to the development of theatre, in a context marked by the closure of theatres and big stages all over the world and the role played by social networks and digital platforms in the current circumstances.

The International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People was established in 1965 as an international alliance of professionals involved in theatre for children and young people. There are 83 national centers globally.

The Association is affiliated with several practitioner networks, including the International Inclusive Arts Network and the International Theatre for Young Audiences Research Network.
