Havana, August 3 (RHC)-- Personalities from around the world continue expressing their support for Cubans and their Revolution against destabilization plots and a fierce misinformation campaign in both, the mainstream and social media against the Caribbean island state, in times of Covid-19.

That is the case of Paraguayan writer Martín Almada, who has come out in support of statements by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador about Cuba’s sovereignty and its example for Latin America and the world.

AMLO’s remarks were in the framework of last week’s ministerial meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

In statements to Prensa Latina news agency, Paraguayan Martín Almada said he fully agrees with AMLO, who stressed that clearly the domination strategy imposed and maintained by world powers over nearly 200 years do not work since they have benefited no one.

‘The time has come, said the Mexican head of state, to rule out military invasions, annexations and unilateral economic sanctions.’

The Paraguayan intellectual expressed his full support for the proposal made by AMLO, who suggested that the United Nations should institute the Dignity Prize, which he said, Cuba rightly deserves after nearly 60 years of firm resistance against all sorts of pressures and aggressions by its powerful neighbor to the north.

AMLO also proposed that Cuba should be designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

'I fully agree with everything that the Mexican president said, said Paraguayan writer Martín Almada, and stressed that the misinformation campaigns against Cuba and other Latin American and Caribbean governments, based on lies or half-truths must end, once and for all.

The Latin American intellectual further stressed that the media manipulations carry significant economic and human damage for the target peoples, thus hampering their development efforts.

A member of the Network of Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity, Martín Almada is an award-winning writer and human rights activist. He is the author of several books about the infamous Operation Condor and the US-backed military dictatorships in Latin America in the 1970s and 80s.

In 2002, the Paraguayan intellectual was awarded the Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the “Alternative Nobel Prize.” Instituted by the Right Livelihood Foundation in Sweden in 1980, the coveted Award honors and supports courageous people, who contribute to solving global problems.
