Havana, August 6 (RHC)-- Cuban musicians have not stopped creating amidst Covid-19. Maestro Ricardo Leyva and his band Sur Caribe are certainly not the exception.

In statements to Cuban press, Leyva said they are now immersed in the production of a new album on the 40th anniversary of Estudios Siboney, located in Eastern Santiago de Cuba and belonging to Cuba’s record and musical editions company Egrem.

Besides the concerts online, as part of the campaign organized by the Cuban Music Institute, the Cuban Culture Ministry and the Radio and television Institute, in times of Covid-19, Ricardo Leyva and his band Sur Caribe collaborated in a new musical production in homage to Revolution Commander and musician Juan Almeida Bosque, who founded Estudios Siboney in 1980.

They are featured also in the tune ‘No te metas’ and the accompanying music video. Written by Alejandro García (Virulo), ‘No te metas’ is a protest song, blasting the more than 240 coercive measures imposed by the Trump Administration against Cuba, aimed at further tightening the blockade policy amidst the pandemic.

Ricardo Leyva said that they are also working on a new album entitled ‘Reliquias’, which will include previously unpublished old trova pieces. He added that it will feature several renown Cuban trova musicians and also popular Cuban singer Issac Delgado, who sings trova music for the first time in his long, fruitful artistic life.
