Renowned Cuban pianist, professor and musicologist Cecilio Tieles will give several concerts in May in Bucharest and the city of Brasov, Havana's embassy in Romania announced Monday.

Bucharest, April 24 (RHC)-- Renowned Cuban pianist, professor and musicologist Cecilio Tieles will give several concerts in May in Bucharest and the city of Brasov, Havana's embassy in Romania announced Monday.

According to a press release from the diplomatic headquarters, the maestro will take on a program that includes Nicolas Ruiz Espadero's Eight Contradances, considered one of the most renowned Spanish-Cuban composers of the 19th century.

He will also perform La Havanne. Fantaisie sur des motifs américains et espagnols op.10, by Julián Fontana, editor of Frédéric Chopin's posthumous works and resident in the Cuban capital between 1844 and 1845, where he left a significant mark on the legacy of the virtuoso Polish composer.

The presentation will also include the Potpurrí cubano, by José White, a famous violinist from the island who, as a professor at the Paris Conservatory in France, taught the Romanian musician George Enescu, and as a finale, Chopin's waltzes.

The concerts are sponsored by the Multicultural Center of the University of Transylvania in Brasov, the Art and Culture Society of Bucharest and the Cuban Embassy in the European country.

The musician, a graduate of the Paris and Tchaikovsky conservatories in Russia, with a gold medal in the latter center, is one of the most outstanding in the American continent for his interpretative achievements, research and teaching.

Likewise, the artist from the Caribbean nation holds a doctorate in Art Sciences, was awarded the National Culture Distinction, the National Education Distinction and the Alejo Carpentier Distinction, and received numerous recognitions during his professional development.

Among these are those of the National Museum of Music and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, as well as the Ernesto Cardenal International Network of Writers of the Earth Award-Recognition, granted by the Mare Terra Fundació Mediterránia, in Spain.
