Starting today, 43rd Festival of the Caribbean in Santiago de Cuba

Havana, Jul 3 (RHC) The 43rd uninterrupted edition of the Caribbean Festival begins today in the city of Santiago de Cuba until July 9, dedicated to the state of Bahia, Brazil.

The opening gala is scheduled for the afternoon at the main hall of the Heredia Theater, an evening in which different expressions of popular culture will converge and the Casa del Caribe 2024 International Award will be presented.

The program includes, as usual, the inauguration of the exhibition Notas del Tiempo (Notes of Time), by the Alberto Lescay National Plastic Arts Award, as well as the Encounter of Young Creators of the Caribbean, organized by the Hermanos Saíz Association in this province as part of the Fiesta del Fuego (Fire Festival).

Likewise, the Santiago headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples will be the Bahia State House, where several cultural activities related to the dedication of the event will take place.

The snake and fire parade, the Antillean and Haitian festivities, an international gala, a tribute to the slave rebellion, theatrical premieres and the Yemayá Festival are some of the activities on the agenda for this occasion.

The Colloquium “The Caribbean that Unites Us” will become a space to analyze topics related to the heritage and traditions of the people and, in particular, will pay tribute to the outstanding journalist Pedro de la Hoz, who recently passed away and deserved the Casa del Caribe 2023 International Award.

As a novelty in this edition, a marathon dedicated to the sponsoring institution will be held, in which Santiago residents and foreigners will be able to participate.

With the participation of more than 300 foreign guests, the Caribbean Festival is positioned as an embrace to the cultures of the peoples of the region. (Source: ACN)
