Havana, May 20 (RHC)-- Colombian cyclist Einer Rubio won Friday the 13th stage of the Giro d'Italia, shortened by bad weather to 74.6 kilometers between the Swiss towns of Le Châble and Crans-Montana.

Rubio, of the Spanish Movistar team, attacked 200 meters from the finish line and overtook the other two riders who escaped and disputed the first position in the sprint: Frenchman Thibaut Pinot and Ecuadorian Jefferson Cepeda.

The three crossed the finish line with a time of two hours, 16 minutes and 22 seconds, in the first big mountain stage of the Giro 2023.

British rider Geraint remained the overall leader, two seconds ahead of Slovenian Primoz Roglic and 22 seconds ahead of Portugal's Joao Almeida.

Today will be the fourteenth stage between Sierre and Cassano Magnago, with a total distance of 194 kilometers.
