Several podiums for Cuban athletics in Lucca City Meeting

Havana, June 5 (RHC) - First places for triple jumper Leyanis Perez and long jumper Maikel Vidal, and a personal best for Roxana Gomez in the 200 m, were the highlights of Cuban athletics on Sunday at the Lucca City Meeting in Italy.

Leyanis, number one in the world list with 14.84m, won with a leap of 14.65m to reaffirm himself as one of the stellar figures of the specialty, while Vidal won the long jump with 7.92m, in an event where the Cubans were on the podium, with the young Alejandro Parada (7.85) and Aniel Molina (7.74).

Meanwhile, the Olympic finalist in Tokyo-2020 in the 400m, Roxana Gómez was fourth in the 200m as part of her preparation by covering the distance in 23.71sec, to improve her personal best of 23.90.

In another result in the city of Lucca, Eduardo Nápoles finished second with 5.40m, in his second competition of his career in Europe.

Also in Italy, but on Saturday, high jumper Luis Zayas achieved his best outdoor result ever with 2.31m at the San Vito Meeting, a mark with which he took first place and placed fifth in the world.

This Tuesday, the Cuban athletics tour of the old continent will continue with the participation of three figures in the meeting of Huelva, Spain, the triple jumper Christian Nápoles, Rose Mary Almanza (800m) and the heptathlonist Adriana Rodríguez, in long jump, while on Friday the Olympic long jump bronze medalist Maykel Massó will make his debut in the campaign in the Diamond League in Paris.
