
Pan American and Oceania Junior Judo Championship
Havana, Apr 21 (JIT) - Cuba won the silver medal in the team tournament of the Lima 2025 Pan American and Oceania Youth Judo Championships.
The Cubans had to go to a tie-breaker with the strong Canadian team in their first outing, as they ended with a tie of three wins on each side.
In the seventh bout, the Cuban squad scored 4-3 and secured a pass to the final, where they faced Brazil.
The South American favorites finally won 4-2 and were also crowned in this mixed team modality, after occupying the first place by country in the medal standings of the individual competitions.
Cuba also maintained its second place, and Canada's team won the bronze medal, improving from eighth place, all in comparison with the individual event.
They competed in the 57 kg, 70 kg, and +70 kg divisions for women, and 73 kg, 90 kg, and +90 kg for men.
Cuba was represented by Dalí Semanat, Yusmelys Sánchez, Deyanara Curbelo, Jon Bon Kuan Fleitas, Naysdel Cardoso, and Zail Ramírez.
