Managua, July 12 (RHC)-- The Nicaraguan Army, in a press release, has rebuffed claims of being involved in undertaking and executing public policing mandates. The accusation comes after opposition members reportedly implied that the military has been 'repressing' citizens.
The Public and Exterior Relations Office of Nicaragua's National Army, in response to the "increasing slanderous information, based on the manipulation of false images made to distort the actions of this institution," has unequivocally refuted the allegations.
The army says it rejects "categorically this slanderous campaign against the Nicaraguan Army, that comes from different routes," alluding to the "assembly of acts where we have never been, the false information and manipulated images" which wrongfully and inaccurately frames the "involvement of Nicaraguan Army's personnel and armament in Public Order activities."
"Public Order activities" are the duties of the police force and do not fall within the purview of the Nicaraguan Army, which reiterated that the military directorate maintains the "absolute control of its personnel, armament" and that "there is not a single fact" in which the "institution personnel is involved" in those activities.
The release also disclosed that the tasks and missions accomplished by the Nicaraguan Army had been made known to the public in a May 12, 2018 press document. "What we do we say and what we say we do. We are the Nicaraguan people in uniforms, working for their own benefit."
