Chile Heads Ranking of Alcohol Consumption in Latin America

Santiago of Chile, May 13 (RHC-PL) -- Chile leads the list of Latin American countries with increased consumption of alcohol, according to the most recent report of the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to the "Global Status Report on Alcohol and Health 2014" in Chile are consumed annually 9.6 liters of pure alcohol per capita, which places this country as the most affected by this problem in Latin America, where the average is 8.4 litres per person.

The report suggests that in this country, men consume about 13.9 litres of alcohol annually, while women around 5.5; a slightly higher index than Argentinians, which follows Chile with 13.6 and 5.2 liters, respectively, and an average of 9.3 per capita.

Venezuela is located in third place with 8.9 litres of alcohol per capita, followed by Paraguay (8.8 litre), Brazil (8.7), Peru (8.1), Panama (8.0), Uruguay (7.6), Ecuador (7.2) and Mexico (7.2).

Latin America occupies the second place behind Europe, where the average climbs to 10.9 litres, adds the report.
