Cyclone Yasa kills at least four in Fiji, a result of the climate crisis

Suva, December 22 (RHC)-- A state of natural disaster has been declared in Fiji after Cyclone Yasa flattened entire villages and killed at least four people, including a 3-month-old baby.

Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama sounded the alarm over the increasing frequency and strength of cyclones in Fiji.  Speaking from Suva, the capital, he said: “This is not normal.  This is a climate emergency."

Fiji, a country in the South Pacific, is an archipelago of more than 300 islands.  It's renowned for rugged landscapes, palm-lined beaches and coral reefs with clear lagoons.  Its major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, contain most of the population.
