Montevideo, December 27 (RHC)-- The parliamentary group of the Frente Amplio demanded this Saturday from the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, detailed information about the negotiations to acquire the vaccine to combat the COVID-19 in the country.

"We view with great concern the health and economic situation of the country.  We need a more active leadership that helps to lower the infection curve and to know when our country will have vaccines like other Latin American countries already have," said Representative José Carlos Mahía.

For his part, Senator Daniel Olesker reiterated that the purpose of the demand is to know the scientific details and to know which is the vaccine that is going to be bought, "it is essential to have scientific information and political strategy.  That is what this call is about," he added.

Likewise, Senator Mario Bergara said the position of the president is laziness in the face of the little information when other countries are already starting to implement the vaccination plans, "it is a matter of laziness, little attachment or simply improvisation," he added.

The parliamentarians' pronouncements came after nations such as Argentina, Mexico, Costa Rica and Chile acquired vaccines against the virus and announced the first measures to apply the dose to their citizens.

According to health authorities, Uruguay reports a total of 15,848 confirmed cases and 143 deaths from COVID-19.
