Venezuela denounces selectivity of UN project

Caracas, May 19 (RHC)-- Venezuela's ambassador to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, denounced the selective use of the Responsibility to Protect as an instrument of colonial intervention, used by some members of the organization.

The diplomat indicated that his country will not support the draft resolution contained in Document A/75/L.82 and rejected the inclusion of Item 135 of the Agenda of the General Assembly, entitled "The Responsibility to Protect and the Prevention of Genocide, War Crimes, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes against Humanity."

In that sense, Samuel Moncada reiterated the denunciation on the consequences that false protection has had, such as the case of Libya in 2011, where it only caused suffering, death and destruction of subjugated countries.

"The same powers that promised the salvation of nations and ended up in their destruction are the ones that today, with the very same discourse, threaten the independence and territorial integrity of Venezuela.  With the same so-called "humanitarian" narrative, they threaten with armed force to destroy the peace of our nation."

And Venezuela's representative before the United Nations said the Colombian President Iván Duque attacks the civilian population as if it were a military enemy.  He also pointed to the very clear example of aggression which occurred in February 2019, when they tried, from the Colombian border, to fabricate a military conflict using a false humanitarian operation as an excuse.
