"The Puebla Group and those of us who are part of it offer President Castillo our support and willingness to collaborate for the success of his government"

La Paz, June 12 (RHC)-- El Grupo de Puebla (The Puebla Group) has called on the political and institutional sectors of Peru to accept the results of last week's presidential elections, led by the candidate of Peru Libre, Pedro Castillo.

"In the climate of polarization in which this electoral process has developed, it is imperative that all political and institutional actors accept the result of the elections and that any type of plans or calls for future democratic destabilization be dismissed," the Group said.

"The election day of this June 6th is a historic opportunity to regain confidence in the institutionality that, in recent years, has suffered a serious crisis, violating the democratic stability of Peru," they said.

"Our admiration and support goes to the brave Peruvian people who, today, have demonstrated in favor of a new beginning, in the midst of one of the worst political and social crises of its recent history."

In the statement, the regional political entity reiterated that "additionally, and given the current context of political instability that the country is going through, we call on the representatives of all Peruvian institutions to unrestricted respect for the popular will expressed at the ballot box."

"The Puebla Group and those of us who are part of it offer President Castillo our support and willingness to collaborate for the success of his government."

The last update in the ONPE portal, at 22H49 hours (03H49 GMT) and with the 100% of the processed and 99.88% of the tallies counted, the presidential candidate of Peru Libre occupies the first place by obtaining 50.145% of valid votes, while the representative of Fuerza Popular registers 49.885%.

To the results offered by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), there are still pending requests for nullity of tables and minutes observed in the Special Electoral Juries of the National Jury of Elections (JNE).

The JNE decided to cancel the extension of the deadline to present the nullity of the minutes until 20H00 local time of this Friday, June 11, so these deadlines expired on Wednesday, June 9 at 20H00.

The president of the JNE, Jorge Salas Arenas, confirmed this Friday night the decision of the electoral body to leave without effect the extension of the deadline to receive requests for nullity of votes.

Pedro Castillo asked the JNE to guarantee and watch over a clean and fair electoral process.  "The Peruvian people deserve it," he wrote on his Twitter account.
