Sacha Llorenti ALBA-TCP secretary reiterates importance of Latin American unity

Caracas, July 5 (RHC)-- The Executive Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti, reiterated the importance of consolidating regional unity to overcome all obstacles.

In the midst of political, economic and model diversity, we have to find links for a common struggle for our interests,' said the head of ALBA-TCP in an interview granted to the program Análisis Situacional, broadcast by the Venezuelan channel Globovisión.

In this regard, Llorenti stressed the objective of strengthening the instances of true integration on the basis of Latin American and Caribbean interests; "to transcend from mere integration to unity, that is the objective," he asserted.

He also warned about the attempts of the capitalist system to destroy any form of alliance or solidarity that opposes the interests of capital, while recalling the negative impact caused in terms of poverty in the countries of the region by the application of neoliberal policies.

"Neoliberalism has generated a lot of poverty and desperation in our peoples, (...) because it only seeks to steal our resources, cheap labor, take over our trade routes and turn us into mere consumers," said the Bolivian diplomat.

Regarding the summit of Heads of State and Government recently held in Caracas, the Executive Secretary indicated that ALBA-TCP focused its discussions on the regional political situation, the conditions generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges to overcome it.

In this regard, he highlighted the joint efforts of the bloc in dealing with the pandemic situation, including the creation of a humanitarian fund for the purchase of vaccines and the exchange of best practices in health protocols.

During the high-level meeting held on June 24 in Caracas, ALBA-TCP renewed its commitment to unity and cooperation in the face of threats to stability in the region.

Authorities of the bloc ratified the will for a genuine Latin American and Caribbean integration, which will make it possible to confront the pretensions of imperialist domination and aggressions against sovereign states in the region.

In the health field, the countries of the group reaffirmed the need for an urgent universal immunization against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus disease, as well as to ensure an urgent, equitable, solidarity-based and affordable distribution of vaccines, supplies and equipment.

The organization agreed to promote the development of the ALBA-Petro-Caribbean complementary economic zone as a model of productive and technological development, based on the values of the Alliance and the principles of the Peoples' Trade Agreement.
