Caracas, August 26 (RHC)-- Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia greeted on Wednesday the support and willingness of the Peruvian Government to accompany the dialogue process between the Government presided by Nicolas Maduro and the Unitary Platform of Opposition, offering itself as an alternate venue with Mexico for the talks between both political sectors.

"We welcome the statements made by Foreign Minister Óscar Maúrtua in which he expresses Peru's willingness to accompany the political dialogue between Venezuelans, a position that opens a new stage of rapprochement between brotherly countries.  We wish success to the ambassador and colleague in his work," expressed Plasencia.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister's message comes after Maúrtua, in his swearing-in speech as new Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed Lima's support to the talks and the willingness to strengthen bilateral relations with the sister nation.

"Peru supports the facilitation being carried out by Norway, under the hospitality of Mexico, with the consensual support of the entire international community. From here we offer our support to make this process bear fruit, including, eventually, being the alternate venue for the negotiations", said Maúrtua.

On August 13, both Venezuelan delegations (pro-government and opposition) signed a memorandum of understanding which contemplates the conclusion of agreements in the field of political rights, electoral guarantees and a timetable for elections to be observed in the negotiation process being carried out in Mexico.

The agenda also includes the lifting of unilateral coercive measures implemented against Venezuela; the restoration of the right to assets, the renunciation of violence and response to its victims, and guarantees of implementation, follow-up and verification of what has been agreed.

This dialogue process, mediated by Norway and accompanied by Russia and the Netherlands, will resume between September 3 and 6 in the Mexican capital.
