Santiago de Chile, June 28 (PL-RHC) -- Chilean President Michelle Bachelet meets Monday with her U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, in Washington, official sources confirmed.
While in Washington, according to officials of the Palace of La Moneda, the President will also hold meetings with the heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).
The Chilean delegation will also include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz; the Minister of Finance, Alberto Arenas; the Minister of Government, Alvaro Elizalde; the Minister of Economy, Luis Felipe Céspedes, and the Minister of Energy; Máximo Pacheco.
Washington is pushing to boost the trans-pacific free trade zone, but Bachelet wants the negotiations to take place at a slower pace "in order to make a comprehensive assessment of the benefits for Chile".
It is a priority to prevent questionable aspects that might arise from this agreement, since if mismanaged, it would become an indirect renegotiation of our FTA with the United States, the President said.
This will be the first official visit to the United States by Bachelet, who took office last March.
