Bogota, November 1 (RHC)-- A new massacre was reported in Colombia, after three men were taken from their homes and taken to the border area of the villages of Caracolí and El Carmen, in the department of Norte de Santander, where they were killed by armed men.

According to the local press, the lifeless bodies of the victims were found over the weekend in a wooded sector of the Caracolí village, a rural area, had gunshots in the face and extremities.

The massacre in the municipality of El Carmen, in the northeast of Colombia, would be the 82nd massacre to be registered in the South American country during 2021, after last October 26 three people were killed in the Rojas Pinilla neighborhood of Maicao by hired killers on a motorcycle, according to the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz).

The authorities are investigating to determine the motives and perpetrators of the massacre, as well as the identities of the victims.  The victims have not been identified for the moment, due to delays in the removal of the bodies due to the presence of illegal armed groups in the area. This situation has prevented the presence of the National Police.

The authorities sent a commission of the Prosecutor's Office to the place of the facts to carry out the removal of the bodies.   The municipality of El Carmen is part of the Catatumbo region in Norte de Santander. Catatumbo has been one of the areas hardest hit by the armed conflict and its effects.
